Under the rear glass sits a twin-turbo V8 designed by Lamborghini, producing 800 horsepower on its own. Add three electric motors, one per front wheel, one integrated into the drivetrain, and combined output lands at 1,001 metric horsepower, or 987 hp by the U.S. measure. Power routes through Audi’s quattro all-wheel-drive system, now working alongside what Audi calls “quattro predictive ride,” a system that reads road and driving conditions in real time to redistribute power before you’d notice the need for it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The car borrows more than an engine from Lamborghini, it shares underlying architecture with the Temerario, Lamborghini’s own V8 hybrid supercar. Formula 1 fingerprints are everywhere in the details: a driver-activated drag reduction system built into the steering wheel, active aerodynamics, and a carbon-fiber body built using the same prepreg autoclave process used in motorsport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Audi hasn’t confirmed final pricing, but the expected range is around $700,000 before options. Only 499 will be built, and pre-ordering in Europe is expected to open in the final quarter of 2026, with deliveries beginning in the first half of 2027. Audi has not yet confirmed whether, or how many, will make it to the U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That scarcity puts the Nuvolari in a different conversation than the R8 ever was. Its real competitive set isn’t other Audis, or even most other German performance cars, it’s the Ferrari SF90 XX Stradale, the Mercedes-AMG ONE, and the McLaren W1. All four are limited-production, hybrid-assisted, seven-figure-adjacent halo cars built in the low hundreds of units, and all four are effectively sold out to their respective brands’ most loyal collectors before the general public gets a real look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The R8 mattered because it was reachable, a genuine mid-engine exotic a serious enthusiast could actually plan to own. The Nuvolari isn’t that car, and Audi clearly isn’t trying to make it that car. It’s a statement piece: proof that Audi can build something that stands next to Maranello and Affalterbach on outright capability, at a moment when much of the rest of the performance-car world is racing toward full electrification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Whether that’s a one-off flagship experiment or the start of a real halo-car strategy at Audi is the more interesting question than the horsepower number.
